Psychological Assessments for Children, Adolescents & Adults
At our practice we offer psychological assessment for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), cognitive functioning, learning difficulties, adaptive functioning and giftedness. Each assessment is designed to uncover unique strengths and challenges, and to provide tailored recommendations that support learning, wellbeing, and everyday life.
How Our Assessments Work
We begin by gathering essential background information through clinical interviews, self-report measures, and questionnaires. For children and adolescents, this may also include input from caregivers, teachers, or other significant adults in their lives. For adults, collateral information from someone who knew you during childhood, such as a parent or guardian, can be especially valuable in understanding the early history of symptoms. To offer flexibility, interviews may be conducted via telehealth, including outside regular clinic hours.
Each individual's cognitive profile is explored using evidence-based assessment tools and structured observation. We assess areas such as attention, executive functioning, learning abilities, memory, processing speed, and adaptive skills.
School observations can be arranged for an additional fee, if clinically indicated. For child assessments, parents will be consulted about this during the second session.
At the conclusion of the assessment, you will receive:
Verbal feedback summarising the findings and discuss recommendations
A comprehensive written report within two weeks, including detailed insights and individualised recommendations
Many families choose to share the report with educators or health professionals to ensure cohesive support across settings.
What Our Assessments Cover
Our comprehensive assessments are designed to screen for a wide range of cognitive, behavioural, and emotional factors—rather than focusing on just one area. This integrated approach helps us understand the full picture and ensures that no contributing factor is overlooked.
We assess key areas such as:
Attention and executive functioning including ADHD-related concern
Learning abilities and cognitive strengths
Specific learning disorders in reading (dyslexia), writing, and mathematics
Giftedness and asynchronous development
Co-occurring or overlapping presentations such as ADHD and learning difficulties
Functional difficulties such as challenges with organisation, planning, time management, self-care, social interactions, and independent living
Mental health challenges that may affect performance such as anxiety that interferes with school, work, or daily activities
This holistic approach helps clarify the nature of presenting challenges and guides accurate diagnosis, personalised support strategies, and access to appropriate accommodations—whether in school, the workplace, or daily life. It also helps avoid common misdiagnoses by distinguishing between similar or overlapping presentations (e.g., ADHD vs. giftedness).
Fees and Time Commitment
Our comprehensive assessments are conducted over three sessions, with the option of a fourth session for a school observation, if clinically appropriate. School observations can provide valuable insight into how your child functions in the classroom setting and are offered at an additional cost.
You will receive a detailed written report within two weeks of the final assessment session. This report outlines your child’s cognitive profile, including their strengths, challenges, and tailored recommendations to support learning and wellbeing at home and school.
The total fee for the full assessment process—including clinical interviews, standardised testing, scoring, interpretation, and report writing—is $920 (excluding the optional school observation).
We understand the importance of making ADHD and learning assessments in Newcastle accessible to families, and we strive to offer a service that is both thorough and affordable.
