Frequently asked questions
Assessments
How much does an assessment cost?
A full psychological assessment, including a comprehensive written report, is $920. If a school observation is required or requested, additional fees may apply.
Do I need a referral for an assessment?
No referral is needed for a psychological assessment. You’re welcome to book directly—no GP referral required.
Is there a rebate available for assessments?
Unfortunately, Medicare does not provide rebates for assessments. However, if you have private health insurance, you may be able to claim part of the assessment fee. We’re happy to provide a detailed invoice to assist with this. We aim to keep assessment costs as accessible as possible for families.
What is involved in the assessment process?
The full assessment process is completed over three sessions:
Session 1: We gather background information from parents or carers (and the young person, if appropriate). Initial assessment activities may also begin.
Between sessions: Questionnaires are sent to parents/carers and teachers to complete.
Sessions 2 & 3: The child participates in a range of cognitive and academic assessments. In the final session, we provide comprehensive feedback to parents or carers.
What should we bring to the assessment?
It’s helpful to bring along any previous reports, schoolwork samples, or relevant therapy records. We’ll also ask about your child’s early development, so having that information ready is useful. If possible, please provide a contact email for your child’s teacher or school—we’ll send them assessment questionnaires after the first session.
Who should attend the assessment sessions?
The child should attend all assessment sessions. At least one parent or carer should attend Session 1 (for background information) and Session 3 (for feedback and results).
Will my child receive feedback directly?
We typically provide assessment feedback to parents or carers, rather than directly to the child. We support parents in choosing how to share the results in a way that suits the child’s age and developmental stage. We’re happy to help you find the right language when you're ready to talk with your child.
do you assess for autism?
While we do not provide formal autism assessments, our comprehensive psychological evaluations include screening for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). If any signs of autism are identified, we will discuss these findings during your feedback session and outline recommended next steps.
Therapy
How much does a therapy session cost?
A standard 50-minute therapy session is $195. If you have a referral and a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate to help cover the cost of psychological therapy.
How do I book a therapy appointment?
You can book a therapy appointment by calling 0498 560 653, emailing admin@wildflower-psychology.com.au, or using the online booking form on the Contact page of our website.
Do I need a referral for therapy?
No, you don’t need a referral to begin therapy privately. However, if you’d like to access Medicare rebates for psychological therapy, you’ll need a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP.
What is involved in getting a Mental Health Care Plan for therapy?
To get a Mental Health Care Plan for therapy, book an appointment with your GP. You’ll discuss your mental health concerns, and if eligible, your GP will prepare a plan and referral. This allows you to access up to 10 rebated therapy sessions per calendar year with a registered psychologist.
Can I request a specific type of therapy?
Absolutely. Your therapy preferences and personal goals are important. During your first therapy session, we’ll discuss different evidence-based approaches and decide together what type of therapy might work best for you.
What if I can’t reach you by phone?
If I’m in a therapy session, I may not be able to answer the phone right away. Please leave a voicemail, send a text, or email me. I’ll respond as soon as I can—usually within one business day.
